Mellite: An Integrated Development Environment for Sound

Mellite is an open source application for computer music and sound synthesis. It targets various scenarios, from real-time live improvisation to fixed media composition and sound installation, attempting to unite these through inter-connectible objects, which live in a transactional data store. It is also a particular kind of development environment, where code fragments written in domain-specific dialects of Scala interface with the graphical user interface. This talk will demonstrate Mellite, focusing on the challenges and potentialities of a hybrid model for working with code and sound. Required Knowledge: No previous knowledge is required, although curiosity about development environments in the context of creative programming and artistic applications is useful.
