ecovillages 2017 - «Smart villages, towards a sustainable economy for mountain villages». In 80 years, we will no longer ski in the Alps. Researchers predict that the Alps could lose 30% of their snowpack by the end of the century, even with a rise in global temperatures limited to two degrees. At present, scientific observations are already showing a marked shrinking of the seasons, hampering tourism and the ski industry. In 2017, ecovillages focused on the alternatives available to mountain villages, in their own surrounding areas and wider regions to develop new economic activities, as well as technologies to better conserve resources and manage budgets at the village level. Ecovillages focused on the specific identity of the villages and the role they will play in the future. What do we look for in villages, whether we are living there or on holiday? These are all exciting questions and challenges that were explored during this 6th edition of ecovillages.
